An Ancient Spirit

I am like a child merely beginning its life, and yet I feel I’m also old, older than the ancient temples that connect mankind to its eternal source. I feel that I have lived from the very beginning of the earth; roaming, touching, changing, and yet forever remaining the same as the breath of theSpirit that gave me life.

Mystery

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed. It was the experience of mystery— even if mixed with fear— that engendered religion. A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, our perceptions of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty, which only in their most primitive forms are accessible to our minds: it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute true religiosity. In this sense, and only this sense, I am a deeply religious man.

I don’t know

At times the wisest of answers
lies in these simple words:
i do not know

I do not know what happens after death
of whether the soul remains awake
of whether soul and body awaits
to be awakened in the last day

I do not know what judgment looms before us
or what mercies await us in our Father’s
loving arms

I only believe in this -
that death can be likened unto sleep
and that it is in the nature
of life to go on

night may come
but day comes as well to awaken
winter may fall
yet spring comes again
whence flowers bloom into their full blossom

I only believe in this-
that perfect love casts away all fear
and therefore, there is no fear in love

Glady and peacefully then
can I sleep
Joyfully and sweetly then
can I wait for the morning

There’ll be no snow in Africa

africa2.jpg

I recently read about the high crime rate in South Africa, something about 50 murders a day and 1 rape every minute!  There were many theories for the reason behind such a condition, as the world seems to be perplexed in explaining to its own mind why this could be happening, what with the peace many experience in their own suburbs, away from those crimes, away from such dreaded darkness of the soul.

Yet can we really separate ourselves from everything that’s been happening?  Can we always put the blame somewhere else saying unto ourselves we have nothing to do with it all?

There is a message our deafened ears need to be hearing, a message saying that when something as dark as this is happening, we should take a look and consider if we might be missing out on something.  Is there something we should have been doing that we have failed to do?

Am I my brother’s keeper?

richhotel.jpgpoorstreets.jpg

How can the very rich co-exist with the poorest of the poor and still deem himself holy while doing nothing for the sake of his brother?

Seems a bit shocking, but in my country this seems to be the case.  For while beggars roam the streets for food or for whatever garbage to scavenge, the rich proudly and comfortably ride their luxurious cars, making their way every Sunday to Church to attend a mass where they proclaim their holiness as though they and they alone are God’s children, seeing not what suffering his brother is going through.

Each of us must illuminate and warm our surroundings. In this cold world we cannot suffice with warming ourselves by donning a fur coat. We must light a fire warming everyone around us.- Rabbi Simon Jacobson

How To Be In Control of Your Life

348668_glowing.jpg

There are many things in life we do not have control over – separation, job loss, sudden sickness, death.  These things leave us frustrated and confused, and we question the meaning of life and what it’s really worth.  We search for the answers, we look for knowledge, even seek the esoteric, so we can at least have a clue, so we can finally live this life with a compass telling us which way we should go rather than grope blindly in the dark.

There are some of us who succeed in their search, and one way or another, we find a way to finally be in control.  We discover the power of our thoughts and the natural laws that govern the world.  In that moment we feel that we can do anything, that finally, we have the answer we are looking for.  We have mastered ourselves and we have mastered our world.

Yet what does mastery really mean?  How do you say you have attained it?

I’d say there are two levels of mastery.

One is believing you are finally in control.  That you can prompt and attract all things that you desire.

The other is when you feel there is no more need at all to be in control, because a Higher Power already is, a power you can trust and believe.  And when you do, you can finally take a deep breath, rest your weary soul, and enjoy the journey prepared for you!  :-)
