“I’m too young to do anything. I don’t know much yet.”
“It’s so hard growing up, I think I’m too messed up right now to do that.”
“Life is just so full. I’m just so busy I have no time to do what I’d really like to do.”
“I have to raise this family right now.”
“I get too tired easily now, I don’t think I could still do that.”
“I’m too old now. I won’t be able to do that anymore.”
How about you? What is your excuse?

My most common excuse is “I don’t want to.” Sometimes it’s good not to do something because you just don’t want to do it, but often this excuse keeps me from experiencing a lot of things in life. Excuses, no matter what they are, aren’t good. Reasons, on the other hand, are a different matter…Thanks for making me think of my most frequent excuse. Hopefully being aware of it will help me to use it less!

Great topic, Joyce.
Well, I often make excuses : “I am too busy, so I can not support you right now.”
Your article has opened my eyes about excuses I often make.
Thank you Joyce.

When I worked as a counselor with addicts I used to tell them anything after “but” is bullsh–! Otherwise known as excuses:)
They began to catch themselves and became aware of their excuses.

Yes, excuses are much too easy! We simply need to be, to live, live life, no excuses!

Hi Jocelyn .. I don’t like excuses .. and I often say I’m sorry but I can’t do that - at the moment I struggle with everything re my mother and my elderly unce and do what I absolute can for them both, while keeping myself sane and above water .. and keeping going (slowly) towards my goal which will be my future life.
Excuses are often lazy, however we all have periods in our lives when we simply couldn’t cope and need to replenish our own coffers .. my mother said to me the other don’t put off til tomorrow what you can do today: she is so right ..

My most common excuse is “I’ve only got an hour…that’s not enough time.” Which isn’t true - an hour is enough to at least start something but that’s how I talk myself out of it.
A relative just told me he has lots of great ideas but lacks follow-through. I know what he meant. I feel like a horizontal yo-yo: forward leaps, backward steps, forward steps, backward slide and then deep stall, forward steps, forward leaps, standstill… It’s my life. Like he said, ideas galore—great ones, too!—yet starting them and then seeing them through…ah, that’s the rub. And there’s no single reason I can put my finger on: lots going on at once, easily distracted, lost momentum, a new/more fun idea interrupted, energy surge waned… It’s never dull, that’s for sure.
