We Are Not So Different

notsodifferent

Sometimes a neighbor whom we have disliked a lifetime for his arrogance and conceit lets fall a single commonplace remark that shows us another side, another man, really; a man uncertain, and puzzled, and in the dark like ourselves. – Willa Cather

We are not so different, you and I. From the outside it would seem we are not so similar. But if we could only see from within, we can see that we are not so different at all.

In many ways, we are vulnerable to the same pain, to the same sufferings. Who among us have not felt alone at times? Or who among us have not lost a person we loved so much?

If we judge another person for one instance of sin or weakness, we may in truth be judging and condemning ourselves.

Before we pass judgment on others, let us try to know them better. Maybe we’d realize that we were not so different from them after all.

“Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. For with whatever judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.” – Matthew 7:1-2, WEB-BE
