Nobody likes hardwork. Even people who boast of honest work, honest labor and diligent work don’t really like hardwork. Liking hardwork is like liking suffering or pain or disease. Hardwork is useless. Contrary to public belief, it isn’t hardwork that brings people success.
Consider the following:
1. Hardwork alone brings stress and overwhelms us. It makes us feel we’re in a rut. Hardwork doesn’t accomplish anything. It is efficient work that helps us finish what we’re supposed to do.
2. Hardwork doesn’t bring us nearer to the accomplishment of our objectives. Undirected hard work only bring us a lot of sweat and tears. It may keep us busy for a long long time, but it doesn’t keep us walking at the right path. Only goal-oriented work does that.
3. Hardwork doesn’t bring us satisfaction, nor does it help us attract good things. We despise hardwork such that we don’t want to consciously attract it in our life. In truth, we’d avoid it for as long as we could. Some people may say that hardwork is sometimes just like exercise. We feel tired, we experience hardship while doing it, but the end result is good and we feel good after a good workout. No wonder that many people quit such a kind of exercise even before they reap the benefits said! If one would choose a workout, one must consider not only the end result, but the process one must go through. It must be enjoyable, an activity to look forward to and not escape from. It isn’t hardwork that brings us satisfaction. It is inspired action!
With inspired action, we hardly notice the hardwork in it anymore, because in truth, it isn’t that hard to do something we love. Hardwork is useless. Find your passion and reap the fruits of your labor!

Brilliant! Finally someone who is in-line with my “it doesn’t have to take a lot of elbow grease” mentality. I will be the first person to admit that I like things easy. I manifest ease as much as possible.
Your statement on inspired action, though, that’s where the rubber meets the road. When we love what we do, it becomes effortless. When I was writing my book, I loved it, and hours flew by. Whenever I’m doing something I love, eight hours feels like eight minutes. On the flip side, if I’m doing something I don’t enjoy, eight minutes can feel like a year. Bah!
Thanks for writing about this. Here’s to ease!
@Megan “JoyGirl!” - Yup, here’s to ease!
Sometimes we just make things so complicated because we can’t convince ourselves that we can get what we want in a simple way.
Hi Jocelyn .. yes we need to be careful how we work .. if it’s a chore, go for a walk around the block - clear the head; ensure we start with a clean workplace .. then our thoughts should flow freely - no stumbling blocks; organise life - so there are no distractions .. oh oh I must pay this bill etc ..
It’s clearing the deck .. then our head can be clear and thoughts can be released with ease.
Passion too - find what you love to do .. and do it - maybe giving it a go, refining it, following others and getting ideas, then seeing what works for you - being inspired means the extra hours can flow, because we have so much positive energy floating around.
Thanks - be inspired and have an excellent week -
all the best Hilary Melton-Butcher

Hi,
I agree with what you’re saying here however I think there are other definitions of hard work.
Growing up on a farm was hard work and lot’s of physical labor.
Raising 4 children was hard work on all levels.
My husband was a brick layer at one time and it was hard work.
Now he’s an accountant and tax seasons are hard work.
Just my thoughts…
@Tess The Bold Life - Hi Tess! Thanks for the perspective
I guess I just thought of physical work on the farm more on the fun side rather than on the hard side. But what you said is also true, that it is no easy task, as much as accounting and tax matters are. Maybe it all depends on the definition we give to it. In this article, I was referring more on the unnecessary work we do, on making things harder than they should be.
@Hilary - I surely like that “so much positive energy floating around”
May there be a lot more of it each day!
Great post! It is absolutely true that Hard work is useless. It is efficient and smart work that brings success and joy in life. Bringing greater mindfulness and awareness into whatever we do is the key to moving from hard work towards smart and efficient work.
@Vijay - Thanks! I do hope I can work more productively and efficiently,
