Insomnia and Letting Go

Insomnia, if not caused by drugs or physical disease, is caused by a problem on letting go.

We can’t let go of our problems. We can’t leave behind our anxieties.  We can’t quiet the noisy chattering of our minds.

Each day, we were meant to begin with a clean slate.  We were meant to have a fresh start, a brand new beginning.  But we can only do that when we are able to empty ourselves, surrender and let go.

Sleep was meant to do that for us.  It was meant to help us.  But now our troubles have risen so high we couldn’t even sleep.

But it’s okey.  You need not force yourself to.

You can try to rest however.  You could try praying.  You could try writing down your concerns on a sheet of paper so you could take them off of your mind for a while.

Breathe.

Listen to music.

Remember your core.

Letting go may not happen overnight, but each step of surrender is indeed a big leap towards healing and peace.

Hi Jocelyn,

Listening to music can be very therapeutic for me. And music followed by sleep – a good combination in letting things go for that moment. It doesn’t mean the same issues won’t be there the next day. It’s just that we’ve let go of them for a bit – freeing ourselves. Earlier on in my life – I would hold onto things after going to bed – and sleep was difficult and restless. Today, I am pretty good at letting go – and sleep is much more improved because of this.

Jocelyn, this post came at a good time for me. The night before last I couldn’t sleep for hours – I blame it in the mosquito that was buzzing around but I know it’s also because I couldn’t let go of something that day. Lance’s suggestion to use music is a good one. Thanks for reminding me of the need to let go.

I’ve had those nights too, Daphne. I even had nights when I felt afraid I couldn’t let go and sleep. Music helps us because it aligns the vibration of our soul into the vibration of prayer, of getting in touch again with God to whom we could cast all our worries away. Have a good sleep tonight, Daphne!
