Sometimes, despite all our positive thinking, certain negative things still happen to us. The bus we are riding might break down. Our boss may impose stupid rules within the office. The economy can suddenly collapse. A pandemic of a deadly and communicable disease may start.
We then wonder where these things have come from. Have we really attracted those things? Have we not visualized only the good things? Have we not focused our minds only on what is healthy, prosperous and joyful?
How did such negative things happen? What is its purpose?
Believe it or not, even the negative things could have a good purpose in our lives. We can use even the negative things to inspire us by breaking our complacency.
When only good things happen for a while, we tend to be complacent, too complacent. Our once burning desire is diminished and we start to fall asleep. When we start falling asleep, we fall back into unconsciousness and we lose the awareness we had before.
Negative things that happen to us alert us that we are starting to fall asleep and bring down our guard. It awakens us and redirects us back to our goal.
Little hassles with public transportation may remind us that it may be time to buy our own car, or replace our old one. Dissatisfaction with stupid office rules may inspire us to be our own boss and set up our office where we don’t have to live out and follow somebody else’s rules.
Let the negative things inspire you and awaken you. Let it remind you of your limited freedom now and your limited powers. Let it point the way to persistence and to progress. See the negative things in their proper perspective, not as hindrances, but as stepping stones in reaching your highest dreams!

This is great! Even though, of course, I try to focus on the positive, having negativity in our lives in some respect is pretty much inevitable. The key is what we do with that negativity and you’ve made some great points in this post about how we can use negativity to inspire us. Love it!

I think the best thinking is 80% positive and 20% realistic. And we have to be wise as to how we can handle the negativity. You are right, sometime even the negativity has a purpose.

Jocelyn, as you say, blessings can always be found in any circumstances. It is up to each person to learn to shift focus from why something is not working to see the advantages in everything.

Hello!
I enjoyed reading your article and I feel you have put some good advice out there. The way I look at this is that it isn’t so much WHAT happens to us as it is how we INTERPRET what happens to us. If we take your advice, we can look at a “negative” situation as an opportunity to grow and to learn.
Great article!

Hi Jocelyn. Excellent post. When we practice positive thinking and aspire to “live it”, we can simply see these perceived negative happenings as more opportunities to practice — build more good muscles.

Hi Jocelyn,
Wonderful post! We like to call those negative happenings “hidden blessings.”
There’s always a positive and sunny side to every situation. It’s up to us to open up to see them all.
Many Blessings….

Hi Jocelyn,
Thank you for bringing this idea around, it is such a powerful one to grasp.
Recently I have had women coming into my store wanting to talk, talk, talk. I usually don’t like to talk so much. I have in the past found it easier to stay focused on my business when I keep away from so much talk. So I kept asking myself why are these ladies here, why have I brought them to me? It took a couple of days for clarity to come, but come it did. Here is my opportunity to correct any of my words or attitudes to exactly what I love and value. And…., this one took a little longer to come to me, but, how wonderful it is to have the universe bringing people into my life. I don’t need to judge and struggle with this, or make prejudicial decisions about what is best for me. If I will trust and open to who ever comes my way, and allow them to say whatever they like, I am an allower. And I can respond to them honestly from my heart, in the moment. And what they think about what I say doesn’t matter to me in the least. In this way I am opening. And opening is what I want.
Great and valuable ideas here. Thank you.
