The Thirst For Love

thethirstforlove

I am thirsty, said Jesus on the cross… His thirst was not for water but for love. – Mother Teresa

We can’t begin helping other people by looking down on people. If we do, we aren’t really helping them, we are undermining their dignity and causing far more damage than good.

Being of real help to others is like seeing a very valuable antique vase that has been hidden for so long we could no longer see its true beauty. While it may be covered by dust or hidden in a dark place, we somehow see how valuable and lovely it can really be. A trained eye is able to discern quickly and it can’t help but start to clean the vase and put it somewhere so as to make its true beauty shine.

If I give away all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:3, WEB
