Why Do We Want To See The Future?

hopefrees

Somewhere at the back of our minds, we want to know the future. We want to predict what would happen so we can finally breathe and wait for all the good things coming our way. We also want to be sure nothing really bad is going to happen, nothing overwhelming, nothing that would challenge all of our strength and all of our will.

But what if we do get to see everything that’s going to happen, both the good and the bad? Are we going to be more at peace today? Are we finally going to enjoy each morning that comes even if we know ‘exactly’ how each day is going to end?

Maybe the key is not to be able to predict the future. More than knowledge, maybe what we really need is faith, the kind that trusts the Father whose hands alone hold our future and whose heart desires only our greatest good.

“HOPE frees us from the need to predict the future and allows us to live in the present, with the deep trust that God will never leave us alone but will fulfill the deepest desires of our heart…” – Henri Nouwen
