Words That Give Life

wordsgivelife2

“Let us resolve: First, to attain the grace of silence; second, to deem all fault finding that does no good a sin; third, to practice the grace and virtue of praise.”- Harriet Beecher Stowe

Our words have the power to hurt or to heal, to break or to raise up, to cause death or to give life. May we always choose what’s good. May we always be watchful of what we say.

If there is nothing good that can be said, may we observe silence. For the effect of the words we utter remain long after they have been said. They are repeated over and over in one’s mind, causing pain and inner wounds that take a long time to heal.

On the other hand, let us be more generous with praise and words of encouragement. Sometimes, all it takes are a few words of affirmation to build up another person’s confidence. A few words are also often sufficient to inspire others towards their dreams.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue;
those who love it will eat its fruit.
-Proverbs 18:21, WEB
