What’s the LOVE we really SEEK?

what's the love we really seek 2012

Love is a great thing
greatest of all goods because it renders light every burden
and bears equally all that is unequal.
Because it carries a burden without feeling it,
and renders sweet and pleasing every bitterness.

Nothing is sweeter than Love,
nothing stronger, nothing higher, nothing more sublime
nothing more expansive, nothing more joyful, nothing more abundant
nothing more pleasing in Heaven or on earth
because love is born of God,
nor it can rest upon created things, but only in God.

Christians living in the present moment

Christians had often been accused
of living for tomorrow,
of neglecting the joys and pleasures
of today
for imagined bliss and wealth
of tomorrow’s heaven.

But nay, I say that quite the opposite is true
for there is none more concerned
of living at the present moment
rather than they
who know how to love
and what true love really means

What are Crosses for?

What are crosses for? What’s the use of suffering? When I was younger, I was afraid of being “saintly good”.  I was afraid because I’ve read how much holy people suffered, how they endured so much pain.

In my mind too, I was not able to reconcile God’s goodness with Him allowing these people to suffer so much.  Was He a sadistic god who took pleasure in seeing us get hurt?  And if this be so, is suffering good?  If suffering is good, why then are we so opposed against the many evils in this world that causes so much suffering and hurt to people?

Herein is my answer many years hence.  Suffering is not good.  It was not God’s will that we undergo this suffering, but it could not be avoided, because this suffering resulted from our own choice back there in the Garden of Eden.

Yet though this be so, God can always use all things, even suffering, to bring about a better good.  It can purify us, it can urge us to seek what’s really important in this life, it can help us find our way back to the God who loves us with a love beyond anybody could ever give us.

Why do the saints suffer?

1.  They suffer because they are still a part of this world, a world of duality, a world of imperfection, a world where darkness is still mingled with the light.

2.  They suffer because they took upon themselves the suffering that should have fallen upon another.  And isn’t this the way to authentic love?  They do not deserve this suffering.  But they voluntarily gave of themselves in order to help another, in order to lift up those who cannot help themselves.

3.  They suffer because God has allowed it for their better good.  I’ve noticed that the weight of one’s cross is always in proportion to one’s strength.  And this is not only because of the fact that greater strength will enable one to carry a heavier cross.  This cross is also used by God to temper our pride, our boasting of our own beauty, when we are already able to accomplish so much.  This cross reminds us that everything comes from God, and without Him, we are sure to fall.

Carrying a heavy burden?  Pray, and you may realize that the cross you carry is also a blessing and a grace that will bring you immeasurable eternal bliss.

Loving broken people

to believe what the eyes cannot see 2012

We cannot exempt ourselves from the world

while we are in the world,

and while we are in it

it is our lot to love broken men.

Yet how can we do it

when we are ourselves are broken,

 and need to be assured

that we are loved

that we are accepted

for being the broken people that we are.

We cannot love a person

with an all accepting, transcending and encompassing love

without being hurt somewhat,

without being disappointed,

without being failed

of our expectations.

We cannot love

without being broken,

yet we cannot continue in love

without being stronger

than our brokenness.

It is only in Jesus

where we can find healing and strength

so as to continue in this love,

so as to continue suffering again and again

yet rise again and again

in a love that is far above

any expectations,

in a love that does not retreat

from any hurt

or any frustration,

but in a love that dares to dare

in a love that dares to dream

in a love

that never ever fails!

Of Denying the Self

It is only upon realizing
how weak
you really are
that you find out
the real meaning
of denying oneself
as Jesus
instructed us.

Jesus did not tell us
to deny ourselves
just for the sake of it,
or for the sake of afflicting
suffering upon us,
but so that we may avoid
the greater suffering
when we allow the flesh
to rule over us
rather than the God
who loves us
and who is the only One
who can uplift us
and guide us to perfection
and true happiness.
