Book Review: Panda Loves Noodles

What do you do when you love noodles so much but you’re a Panda that should love bamboos instead? That seems to be the predicament of Panda Joe in the story Panda Loves Noodles by Diane Blincoe. Panda Joe can’t help but think of noodles in all shapes and sizes whether he is playing or singing or dancing. He loves noodles so much he wants to let his friends know how tasty it could be!

Kids who love noodles can definitely relate to this fun-filled story they can read alone or together with their parents. On the other hand, children who don’t know about noodles can be introduced to this kind of food, and this book for them can be a learning experience about the different kinds of noodles they can taste.

Illustrated through colorful drawings that quickly capture the interest of children, this book is a playful and lighthearted read kids would surely love. Even as an adult, I felt like drawing with crayons or watercolors again to recreate the raw and tender strokes that made each illustration come to life.

Narrated through the use of rhymes, reading the book or merely listening to it becomes even more enjoyable. Children can even make their own play or short drama, taking on the various animal characters in this story.

The simple story of this book is easy enough to be understood by kids while allowing for some deeper layers of lessons they can also catch like friendship, teamwork and creativity. It can even entice them to eat healthy foods.

I won’t tell you how the story ends because I’ve also been curious up to the last pages of the book. Being a noodle lover myself, I just hope there is a second book that’s just as delightful and engaging for adults and children alike.

A charming and vividly colorful book that children of all ages would love to read again and again!

Book Review: Chris, the Tiny-Tailed Tiger by Susan George

Sometimes, our biggest problem is merely our greatest blessing in disguise. That’s what happened to Chris, a young tiger who spent all his life in a zoo until bullying forced him to look for another way to live his life.

Filled with colorful and attractive illustrations that would capture the attention and imagination of children, “Chris, the Tiny-Tailed Tiger” by Susan George is a wonderful tale worth telling your ones. Not only would it teach your child to not judge one’s appearance, but it would also equip him with the priceless virtue of perseverance.

This book is recommended for parents, teachers and guardians who would like to spend quality time with children. It is a light and easy read but it is also fun and full of lessons that would last years after the story had been read.

Using animals as characters in the story, children who have visited the zoo could easily create a mental picture that’s easy to recall and relate to. Rhymes are also present, making the book far easier and more fun to read.

Being a book based on a story written by the author’s husband when he was a second-grader, it is definitely a tale from the young to the young and young at heart. Let Chris inspire you in this wonderful story of courage, hope and determination.

Always remember that being different is never a hindrance to reaching one’s full potential. We can still reach our dreams and live a meaningful life if we keep on believing and never give up.

Book Review: 8 Steps for Interview Prep

8 Steps for Interview Prep: How English Learners Can Confidently Answer “Tell Me About Yourself” and Other Questions

8 Steps for Interview Prep by Tina Crouch is a short but very informative book that could help you thrive in your job interviews. Written by an English teacher especially for ESL (English as a Second Language) students, it is packed with practical advice that could help non-native English speakers confidently take on any interview in the US.

Even if you’re in a rush, you can easily see valuable pieces of information at the end of each chapter under the section “In a Nutshell.” It’s a book that’s very easy to read and wouldn’t make the interview process far more complex than one may fear it to be.

Filled with contributions coming from human resource experts, it’s a practical guide that can help the reader gain insight from within the company’s perspective. One would learn how the interview process was meant to be a mutual exchange of information that could help both the company and the prospective employee make their final decision in relation to their unique needs.

I wish I had read this book while I was still searching for jobs after my college education. It could have helped me gain more confidence before I faced each job interview I went through. Tips on relaxation techniques as well as practice questions could have prepared me more for the actual interviews I’ve had.

This book also contains information for those who are not very familiar with the American setting for companies. There are various tips to help one adjust to the cultural setting that is peculiar to the US.

How I wish that the book was longer so I could learn even more valuable tips from the author. But I guess the conciseness of the book is in itself a way of making it easier for readers to prepare themselves and to gain the confidence they need while searching for that job that matches their true desires.
