You Are Not Alone

Sometimes it takes a whole lifetime to learn how to really love ourselves because it also takes a lifetime to know how much God really loves us.

Being Alone

Being alone
Is like running out of breath
Is like falling,
And even if you’re
In a crowd of people,
It’s like drowning
In the midst of them,
Each one a wave
Plunging over you
Until you start to sink
Cause there is really
Nothing to keep you afloat.

And so you close your eyes
And wait
You try not to think anymore
Because thinking
Only worsens your fears.
All you want to do
Is to escape,
To find something
You can hold on to,
A light
That will not hurt
Your eyes
But show you the way.
A voice that
Will not put you down
But lead you
Into that quiet place
Where your feet
Can touch
The ground.

“Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name.
You are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
and through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burnt,
and flame will not scorch you.
For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel,
your Saviour.”
-Isaiah 43, WEBBE

Seeking Love

We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become. – St. Claire of Assisi

Life is a pursuit of things we love in order to find happiness. The challenge is to be able to see what things can give us a love that is full, true and pure and a happiness that will never fade away.

…whatever things are true, whatever things are honourable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4, WEBBE

The Happiness We Seek

What is it that we seek but love?
And what is it that love seeks
but that which can make it happy?
Love seeks what is true and good and pure,
love yearns for what is beautiful
for a happiness that can never be lost.

Yet many are the times
when love becomes blind
and it does not see what it was meant to find.
Yes, many are the times
when love settles for what is less,
and it clings to such things
that can never give it rest.

Blessed is the heart that knows how to wait,
blessed is the love that sees
what it must find,
and is not deceived by things
that make it blind.

For though it may suffer for a time,
though it may bleed and hurt and cry,
Yes, though it may even think it dies,
it shall certainly heal and live and rise,
it shall have the happiness that it truly desires.

God Alone Is Perfect

There is no perfect life, no perfect job, no perfect childhood, no perfect marriage and no perfect set of people who will always do what we expect them to do. What we have is a perfect God who is able to lead us through this imperfect life with unfailing strength, incomparable wisdom and infinite love.

This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. – 1 John 1, WEBBE

This One Love

There is that love
From which all other loves
Come from,
And with which all other loves
Are blessed.

It’s that kind of love
That fills your heart
To the fullest,
A love that could never
Be replaced.

It gives meaning
To all that you do,
and to all that you are.
With it you see everything else
in a whole new light.

There is that love
That truly changes you
And you know you could
Never go back
You’d never want to go back.

For this is that love
That one love that
Can make you really happy
And you know you only live
Because it has found you at last!

To Satisfy The Heart

“Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?” – St. Gerard Majella

For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul? – Mark 8, DRA

Sometimes I Forget

Sometimes I forget.
I forget how beautiful
You are
And how no one
In all the world
Can ever replace you.

When I forget,
I settle
For what is less,
I try to fill that big void
In my heart
With things
That could never fill it
No matter how hard I try
Or how long I look.

When I forget,
I do all sorts
Of foolish things,
Just so I can
Numb that ache
That never seems
To go away,
That seems to tell me more
Than what I can presently
Understand.

In truth,
It is this very ache,
This inner wound
That eventually reminds me
That there is something
Out there that is
Far bigger and more wonderful
Something far more satisfying
Than I can ever dream about.

There is something
There is someone
Who alone
Can reach
The very depths if me,
Who alone can touch
My very soul,
And even if I may forget
I know He will find a way
To bring me home.

“Who can make me happier than God? In him I find everything.” – St. Teresa of the Andes

“Our hearts were made for You, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in you.” – St. Augustine of Hippo

What Matters Most

We may not have everything we want, but may we never fail to fight for those things that truly matter in the end.

Yes most certainly, and I count all things to be a loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ and be found in him… – Philippians 3, WEBBE

Sometimes a great crisis comes to test us. Something unexpected happens and we come to question everything we have ever worked for and believed in. A door of opportunity opens and we start to ask ourselves whether we must enter a new path or stay where we are.

Are the things we are currently striving for really worth protecting? Are the things we hold dear really that precious to us to continue holding on to? What if holding on isn’t as easy anymore as it was? What if staying would eventually require a difficult sacrifice on our part?

Must we let go when the journey is no longer convenient or the path no longer strewn with flowers? Must we give up when we are called to be braver and stronger than we think we are?

Times of crisis comes not to take away what we have worked so hard for. It comes to make us see better what we really have and what we are giving up. It comes to show us the things we are willing to sacrifice for, the things we are ready to fight for to the very end.

I’ll Fight For What We Have

I just want to let you know
that I will be fighting
for what we have.
I will not give in,
I will not give up.

Though there are times
when we seem so far apart,
Times when memories of our love
seem to fade away
and I can barely
find a trace
of the happiness we’ve had,
Still I will go on,
I’ll be fighting for what we have.

You had always been the strong one,
You had always been
the one who fought for us,
and now I know
that you want me to be strong, too.
You want me
to have courage
even when everything appears
to be falling apart.

You want me to believe,
and i will fight in order
to believe,
to hope,
to love
to the very end
with you,
beside you,
for you.

I will be fighting for
what we have
and I will not let anything
take away
that one thing
that is truly worth
fighting for.
