Remember Your Joy

Let us fill our hearts with as much joy as we possibly can. When we pass through the most troubling times, the happiness we have gathered will be like a light that shines for us in the gloomiest of nights.

“Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8, WEBBE

You Must Remember

You must remember
how it feels to be alive,
what it’s like
to really live,
and breathe,
and love.

You must remember
how it feels
to touch eternity,
to taste goodness,
and beauty
and joy!

You must remember
because we often
seem to forget,
and in making a living,
we have forgotten
to live,
to hear,
to see,
what’s really worth living for.

Love With No Measure

The only way to love is to love with all your heart. And when you love like that, you love without any measure. You love without end.

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. – John 15, WEBBE

That Kind Of Love

How do you go on loving
Tell me how do you still love?
When nothing seems to make sense anymore
When all feels painful
When all is cold and dark

How does love survive
Tell me how could it even live?
When all hope falls into a silence
That gives no comfort
But fills your eyes with tears

Ah, sometimes there are questions
We know not how to answer
As there are troubles
We know not
How we ever survived.

Sometimes we just love
and we go on loving
Even when it really hurts
Even when we don’t get
Anything back.

For there is a kind of love that lives
And endures to the very end,
The kind that doesn’t just give up,
But gives without measure
And holds nothing back.

Your Life Matters

Don’t tell me there’s nothing extraordinary in the life you’re living. Your life is special just because you are in it. Remember always how precious you are in God’s sight.

“Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name.
You are mine.”
-Isaiah 43, WEBBE

An Ordinary Life

There are many times when I wondered,
Is there anything special about my ordinary life?
What’s the point of everything?
Where is it all going?
Am I supposed to be doing something
That could make my life worthwhile?

What does it matter that I live?
Who would even notice?
In a world with seven billion souls
Why would it matter
That I am still alive?

Yet you tell me
That my life matters
And that when I’m gone
I would be terribly missed.

You tell me
That you see something in me
That you could never see
In a hundred billion souls.

And somehow,
When I look into your eyes
I believe you,
And I start to realize
How precious one life can really be.

I did no great thing,
I experienced no terrible tragedy,
But you made me feel grateful
For every precious moment I have been alive.

Because of you, I have come to believe
And now I know
What wonders there could be
In this blessed and ordinary life.

To Love More

Love will always require more than we think we ought to give. It will always require more patience, more gentleness, more courage, more faith, and more hope. And to continue loving, we need to draw more strength than we could ever think or imagine. Love requires all because it also gives all. Love will always give more and in the end, true love can never fail.

Love Is More

Love is not love only
When it is seen
Or heard
Or touched.

Love is not love only
When it is remembered,
When it is received
And appreciated
In warmth.

For love is more love
When it is given
In secret,
When it is rendered
Where it is thought
It could never be found.

Love is more love
When it quietly serves
And persistently gives
And gives and gives,
Even when ignored
Even where it seems
To bear no fruit
And all is
Painful
And wearisome
And dark.

Such is love indeed,
Such is true love.
Love survives the darkest night
And though it passes
Through the valley of the shadow of death,
Love endures and conquers and lives.

“But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6, WEBBE

Love and Understanding

I’ve always thought that in order to love people, you must understand them first. But later I wondered: If we truly wish to understand people, wouldn’t it be better if we first loved them?

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
but the LORD weighs the hearts.
-Proverbs 21:2, WEBBE

How far can we go in loving other people in times when we cannot understand? How do we love when we cannot see? How do we love when we no longer know where to even begin?

To Love and Understand

When troubled, do not begin
where you cannot understand,
where you can find much fault,
where it is truly dark.

Do not begin where you are right,
and the other one is wrong.
Do not start where it hurts
and you felt unloved.

But begin where you can see
just a little bit of light,
Begin by looking for the good
begin by being kind.

Soon you’ll see souls
merely trying their very best,
Soon you’ll see wounds,
and hearts that need some rest.

By beginning with love,
you will start to understand,
It is compassion that will save you both,
as you now walk hand in hand.
