A Lesser Evil

Never open the door to a lesser evil, for other and greater ones invariably slink in after it. – Baltasar Gracian, The Art of Worldly Wisdom

That Little Evil

That little evil you did,
You think it wasn’t evil at all
You’re not convinced it is evil
Just because it was small…

But that little evil you did
It crept to your heart
And you hardly felt it
Because it’s just a bit.

But that little evil you did
It began to poison you
Little by little it did
That little evil you did.

Until one day that little evil
It wasn’t little anymore
Because it grew so big
‘Til you can’t fight it anymore.

“You have heard that it was said… ‘You shall not murder;’and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’ but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
-Matthew 5 (WEB)

Of Good and Evil

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. – Mahatma Gandhi

Drawing The Line

You can persuade
but not manipulate
You can speak
but not kill with your words
You can sacrifice your body
but never your soul
You can give your life
but not take another’s
You can seek justice
but not vengeance
You can fight monsters
but never become one of them!

There are some things we can do
and some things we cannot do
If we truly wish for light to prevail
If we truly wish for good to triumph
then we must learn to draw the line somewhere
and not be the evil
we wish so much to conquer!

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
– Matthew 6, WEB

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
who put darkness for light,
and light for darkness;
who put bitter for sweet,
and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
and prudent in their own sight!”
-Isaiah 5, WEBBE

Boundless Love

God’s patience has to call forth in us the courage to return to Him, however many mistakes and sins there may be in our life… It is there, in the wounds of Jesus, that we are truly secure; there we encounter the boundless love of His heart. – Pope Francis

For The Countless Times

For the countless times I sinned
And you still took me in.
For the countless times I strayed
And you still held my hand
Willing to lead me back
Again and again.

For the countless times I faltered
And you never gave up
But continued to believe
That I can still get up.
For the countless times I’ve hurt you
But you never complained
And you kept on loving me
Again and again.

It is for these and for countless things more,
For things that words could never express
That I give you my praise, my heart and my soul
Hoping and praying that I could love you more.

O how I pray for the time
And how I long for the day
That I won’t hurt you
And I won’t fail you anymore.
But until that day
I pray you show me the way
To keep on believing
To keep on hoping
To keep on returning
Again and again
To you.

If he sins against you seven times in the day, and seven times returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him. – Luke 17, WEBBE

Have confidence, My child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you. As often as you beg for it, you glorify My mercy. – Divine Mercy in My Soul, 1488

Before Christ Crucified

Even though your sufferings were very great, do not lose heart or give in to despondency. But tell Me, my child, who has dared to wound your heart? – Divine Mercy in My Soul

Many times, our hearts are so heavy that we can’t even pray for what we need. We just feel overwhelmed. We want rest but we can’t find it. We know we have many questions at the back of our minds, but we can’t even start naming what these questions are.

Whenever we feel like this, may we find comfort before the crucified Christ. Sometimes, we need no words in order to pray. But we need to seek His Face and to lay down before Him our many burdens and tears.

At The Foot of the Cross

At the foot of the cross
that’s where I want to be
To gaze upon my God
with boundless love for me

To kiss His feet pierced with nails
to worship and adore
Him who was pierced by a lance
Him who was crowned with thorns

I cannot ever understand
all the reasons why
Why He must be crucified like this
why He must suffer and die

But there at the foot of the cross
I feel His great mercy for me
Blood and water flowed from His heart
out of His great love for me

How else can I even understand
how infinite and great is His love
if not by the cross, yes, by the cross
where all is gained when all was lost

I thank you Lord for bringing me
where alone my soul can stay
It is there alone where I can find healing
it is there alone where I can be saved!

“For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards Heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” -St. Therese of Lisieux

But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53, WEB

To Really See Him

Do you think the Lord has left you? He has gone away so we will find Him. He has gone away so we will seek Him. – Full of Grace, Film

We all have our preconceived ideas about God. Maybe we have read about Him somewhere. Or maybe we have heard things about Him from other people. And so we heard that He is just. And so we heard also that He is merciful.

But one day, we’ll know Him for who He really is. And won’t we be surprised? When we really get to know Him, I believe we’d say, “He is so much more than what they said He is!”

To See Him

To see Him as He is
Not as I thought He was
Not as I thought He would be

To really know Him
To know what it’s like
to be His friend

To be able to gaze at His face
To hear His voice
To feel His touch

To walk with Him
To talk with Him
To be able to stand by His side

What greater joy
could there be?
What greater destiny?

To see Him at last is Heaven,
and Heaven is to behold Him
as He is at last!

Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. – 1 John 3, WEB
