Pray Like a Child

praylikeachild

“Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.” – Henry Ward Beecher

We don’t need to impress anyone when we pray.

We can pray simply and sincerely, like children usually do.

Pray from the heart. Pray with trust. Pray knowing that your Heavenly Father is listening to you, loving you, and is even more desirous than you are to grant you your prayer, provided that it would be best for you.

The Prayer of a Child

The prayer of a child
is often answered.

It is answered
because it is pure.

It is answered
because it has no fear.

It does not think about the past,
it does not worry about the future.

It is not ashamed to express the truth,
it is not ashamed to express how it feels.

The prayer of a child
goes right up to heaven,
unto the ears of God
who hears it,
because it wants to be heard.

The prayer of a child
is answered
even before it has been uttered.

It was answered
when the child started to pray
with her heart.

From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength… – Psalm 8:2, WEBBE

Happiness Is Ever New

happinessisevernew

“Happiness is like manna; it is to be gathered in grains, and enjoyed every day. It will not keep; it cannot be accumulated; nor have we got to go out of ourselves or into remote places to gather it, since it has rained down from Heaven, at our very door.” – Tryon Edwards

When Happiness Flew

I found happiness once
It gave me so much life
that I never wanted it to depart.

So I tried to keep it in a drawer
I had it under lock and key
until the day I opened the drawer
and found that happiness
wasn’t anymore there for me.

I cried so hard when I lost it,
until the day when I found it again.
Happiness looked almost the same
yet a bit different
as it called my name.

It warned me never to keep it,
that if I wanted it back,
I have to let it go.

I was tempted to capture it again,
but then I remembered my drawer
and so I watched
as happiness flew.

I thought I’ve lost it for good,
but it came back from day to day,
always the same, yet always different
ever old but ever new.

I wasn’t afraid anymore,
and I knew I would never lose it again
because since I let it go,
happiness returned and became my friend.

By the river on its bank, on this side and on that side, will grow every tree for food, whose leaf won’t wither, neither will its fruit fail. It will produce new fruit every month, because its waters issue out of the sanctuary. Its fruit will be for food, and its leaf for healing. – Ezekiel 47, WEBBE

The Peace of God

thepeaceofgod

Said the Robin to the Sparrow:
“I should really like to know
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so?”

Said the Sparrow to the Robin:
“Friend, I think that it must be
That they have no Heavenly Father
Such as cares for you and me.”
– Elizabeth Cheney

You can’t control everything. Try as you might, plan as you might, you’d still encounter things that never even crossed your mind.

So don’t waste time fretting. Quite often, the things we feared don’t happen at all. On the other hand, things happen that we never even feared.

Why waste your strength for what you could never even predict? Conserve your powers so you may have the ability to deal with what you will truly face.

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB)

To Find What’s Beautiful

tofindwhatsbeautiful

We live only to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting. – Kahlil Gibran

…we too often focus only on the negative aspect of life, on what is bad. If we were more willing to see the good and the beautiful things that surround us, we would be able to change our families. From there, we would change our next-door neighbors and then others who live in our neighbourhood or city. We would be able to bring peace and love to our world which hungers so much for these things. – Mother Teresa

We live to seek what’s beautiful, and once we find it, our desire is to keep it, to preserve it forever if we could.

That’s why we take so many photographs. That is why we paint and do sculptures and so many works of art.

We want to capture that moment of beauty where we transcend the mundane and leap at once from time to eternity. We want to enter into that magical realm where we become free at last, where we not only touch the beautiful, but where we become one with it, and in finding the beautiful, we also find ourselves.

Leisure (By: William Henry Davies)

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8 (WEB)

Keeping Love Alive

keepinglovealive

I look for little opportunities, for the smallest trifles, to please my Jesus: a smile or a kind word, for instance , when I would wish to be silent, or to show that I am bored. If no such occasion offer , I try at least to say over and over again that I love Him. This is not hard, and it keeps alive the fire in my heart. Even should the fire of love seem dead, I would still throw my tiny straws on the ashes, and I am confident it would light up again. – St. Therese of Lisieux

Little Deeds of Love

A glance of kindness
To keep the fire burning
A touch of patience
To keep the love alive

A word of courtesy
A nod of gratitude
A pat of consolation
To uplift the mood

A smile
A quick embrace
A kiss
Never miss one deed.

And you know
That all you need
Are these little things
To keep the love alive.

He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.” – Matthew 13:31-32 (WEB)
