Why make daily motivational affirmations?

Do we really need  daily motivational affirmations? We often read about the benefits of daily motivational affirmations, and we agree how reading and reciting them helps us have a good start for the day.  But why aren’t we doing them?  Why do we find it hard to recite these affirmations each day that we get up and carry on our normal day to day lives?

Is it because we think them to be corny and cliche already?  Is it because we think we’re only fooling ourselves in the process, dreaming in broad daylight those things which could not really be?  Or is it because we couldn’t admit to ourselves that we are forgetful and that we need to remind ourselves often of what the most important things in life really are, lest we forget them and stray in our paths to things that ensnares us in the monotony of life?

I think the real truth behind the difficulty is this:  We find it hard to face the true condition of our soul each day so we’d rather not face it, and we’d rather not do anything about it.  It’s as hard as seeing your face everyday in the mirror when all that you’re seeing is a smudged and worn out face you couldn’t believe you have.

For Christians for example, one affirmation is this – “I am God’s beloved child.”  Sounds simple enough, but not so easy to take in and integrate.  Why not?  If what you’re seeing in the mirror is someone who is frustrated, who has just been fired from work or had just been dumped by one’s “true love”, how can you possibly say it when saying your affirmation is like slapping yourself in the face?

We’d rather not take that slap and get hurt any further.  We’d rather forget and carry on as though everything’s okey while we know deep within us that it is really not.

Oftentimes, it would have been better had we taken that slap so we can be awakened, and so that we can make a way into realigning our lives with who and what we really are.  “A beloved child of God” That’s who you are.  But what should you do so you can believe that and recite that with conviction in your heart and power in your voice?  How can you be aligned to your true nature?  That’s when a lot of effort may have to be made, so that the form without can be truly consistent to the substance within.

I would like to share with you one affirmation I made titled “WHY Not?”, an affirmation you can also choose to utter daily.  On the other hand, you can certainly start uttering your own daily motivational affirmation, one that comes from within the pure spirit in you that’s been waiting to be revealed today.

WHY NOT?

You ask me why I’m happy?

I am happy because I have a great inheritance

My Father is the King of the Universe

and I am a daughter of royal blood

My time never runs out

for my time is forever

Never will I fear of the moment

for mine are the eternal reaches of time

My peace surpasses the understanding

of the wisest men

for it is a peace that never shatters

even with the most troubling shadows

of the night

It is a peace that flows

from the spring of letting go

completely letting go

You ask me why I’m happy?

I ask you rather, WHY NOT?
