Day 12: The Gift of Remembering (Devotional for the Grieving)

Bible Verse:
“But I will remember the LORD’s deeds; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” – Psalm 77:11 (WEBBE)

Reflection:
Grief can make it hard to focus on anything other than the pain of loss. When your heart aches, it may feel as though the world around you is moving forward while you are stuck in a place of sadness. But Psalm 77:11 gives us an invitation to shift our perspective, even if only for a moment: “But I will remember the LORD’s deeds; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.”

The act of remembering is powerful. When you take the time to remember, you are not forgetting your loved one; rather, you are cherishing their memory and allowing it to be a source of comfort and strength. You can also use this time to recall the ways God has been faithful to you in the past, even in the most difficult moments of your life.

Remembering the Lord’s deeds reminds us of His goodness and the hope we have in Him. It helps us move from the darkness of grief toward the light of gratitude and faith. When we reflect on His wonders, we are reminded that He is with us now, just as He has been in the past. This practice can offer peace in the middle of sadness and the assurance that His presence will guide us through the days ahead.

Take time today to remember, to think of moments when you felt God’s presence, when He brought comfort to your heart, or when you found a small reason to smile. Let your memories be a reminder of His faithfulness and the hope that, with time, you will find peace.

Prayer:
Lord, as I grieve, I sometimes struggle to see beyond the pain and sadness. Help me to remember Your deeds and the ways You have shown Your love and faithfulness in my life. Teach me to cherish the memory of my loved one and find comfort in the moments we shared. Let me hold on to Your promise that You are always with me, even in the hardest times. Amen.

Course of Action for Today:
Take a few minutes to sit in a quiet space, close your eyes, and think of a time when you felt God’s presence or a memory with your loved one that brings you peace. Write down what you remembered in a journal or on a piece of paper and say a prayer of gratitude for that moment.

As you go about your day, find small ways to reflect on positive memories, whether it’s looking at a cherished photograph, listening to a song that reminds you of them, or thinking of their favorite activities. Let these moments bring you comfort and serve as a reminder that your loved one’s memory is a part of your story and that God’s love endures forever.
