Day 13: Comfort in God’s Presence (Devotional for the Sick)

Bible Verse:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement, who encourages us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction, with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NABRE)

Reflection:
In this passage, the Apostle Paul describes God as “the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement.” This image of God emphasizes His deep empathy and His role as a source of comfort in times of trouble. When we experience affliction, whether it be illness, loss, or personal struggle, God’s encouragement comes as a healing balm to our hearts.

Paul highlights that the comfort we receive from God is not meant to be kept to ourselves. Rather, it equips us to extend that same encouragement to others who are suffering. Our own experiences of God’s compassion can become a powerful tool for helping others through their challenges.

This divine cycle of comfort—receiving from God and then sharing with others—fosters a community of mutual support and love. As we experience God’s encouragement, we are called to pass it on, becoming instruments of His peace and hope in the lives of those around us.

As you reflect on this verse, open your heart to receive God’s comfort and encouragement. Consider how you might share this gift with others who are in need of support, and let the cycle of compassion and encouragement flow through you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for being the source of all compassion and encouragement. In my times of affliction, I seek Your comfort and strength. Help me to share the encouragement I receive from You with others who are struggling. May Your love and support flow through me to bring hope and solace to those around me. Amen.
