Day 15: Finding Rest in God’s Promise (Devotional for the Grieving)

Bible Verse:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 (WEBBE)

Reflection:
When you are in the depths of grief, it can feel like the weight of loss is more than you can bear. Each day can seem like an uphill struggle, and moments of rest or peace may feel unreachable. Yet, Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28 is a promise that in our most difficult moments, we are not left to carry the burden alone. He says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

This verse speaks directly to your heart in its deepest pain. Jesus calls you to come to Him with all of your worries, weariness, and burdens. When you bring your grief to Him, He offers rest—not just a temporary break, but a deep, soul-refreshing peace that can only come from Him. This is not the rest of an escape, but the rest that comes from knowing you are held, understood, and loved by the One who created you.

As you take this step of coming to Jesus, remember that He does not promise an instant solution or that the pain will disappear overnight. But He does promise that His presence will sustain you, comfort you, and bring you peace as you face each new day. In His love, you will find the strength to carry on, even when it seems impossible. Trust that He is there, with open arms, ready to give you the rest your weary heart needs.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am weary and burdened by grief. I come to You today, bringing all my pain, sadness, and struggles. I ask that You give me the rest and comfort that only You can provide. Let Your presence surround me and renew my spirit. Help me to trust in Your promise and find peace in Your love. Thank You for being my refuge and strength. Amen.

Course of Action for Today:
Take a moment to pause and reflect on what’s weighing heavily on your heart. In a quiet space, visualize yourself stepping forward and placing your burdens at Jesus’ feet. Feel His comforting presence and allow His peace to wash over you. If possible, read through Matthew 11:28 a few times throughout the day as a reminder of His promise to give you rest.

Reflection Question:
