Day 15: “The God of All Comfort” (Devotional on Anxiety and Fear)

Bible Verse:

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble, with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

Devotional:

Life often presents us with difficulties that can feel overwhelming, and in those moments, we may question where to turn for solace. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 offers a beautiful assurance that God is the ultimate source of comfort in our times of trouble.

Paul begins by praising God as “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.” This description highlights God’s deep empathy and His ability to provide the comfort we need. Unlike temporary or superficial comfort, God’s comfort is profound, lasting, and all-encompassing. It is designed to meet us exactly where we are, in the midst of our struggles.

The verse also emphasizes that God comforts us “in all our troubles.” This means that no matter how varied or intense our difficulties may be, God’s comfort is sufficient and available. His comfort is not just for minor inconveniences but for profound and serious troubles.

Moreover, the purpose of receiving God’s comfort is not solely for our own benefit. We are called to extend the comfort we receive to others who are experiencing trouble. Our personal experiences of God’s comfort equip us to empathize with and support those around us. By sharing the comfort we have received, we participate in a cycle of encouragement and support within the community of believers.

Consider the troubles or challenges you are currently facing. How have you experienced God’s comfort in these situations? Reflect on how you might be able to share this comfort with others who are struggling.

Embrace God’s comfort and allow it to flow through you to others, becoming a source of encouragement and solace in their lives.

Prayer:

Father God, I thank You for being the God of all comfort and compassion. In my times of trouble, I am grateful for Your comforting presence and support. Help me to experience Your comfort deeply and to extend that same comfort to others who are in need. Teach me to be a channel of Your peace and encouragement, sharing the comfort I have received with those around me. Thank You for Your faithfulness and Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
