Day 20: A Light in the Darkness (Devotional for the Grieving)

Bible Verse:
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1 (WEBBE)

Reflection:
Grief often feels like walking through a dark, uncertain path, where every step you take is filled with doubt and fear. It’s easy to feel consumed by the shadow of loss, questioning how to move forward when the weight of sadness seems insurmountable. In these moments, Psalm 27:1 offers a powerful reminder: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

When you are in a dark place, you need a light to guide your way. The verse tells us that God is that light, illuminating the path ahead, even when you cannot see beyond your pain. He is your salvation—the one who rescues you from the deepest distress and brings hope when all seems lost. When you place your trust in Him, fear loses its power, and you find the strength to face each day.

Remember, you are not alone in your grief. God is with you, holding your hand and providing the courage you need to face your darkest hours. His light doesn’t just brighten the path; it also dispels the fear that can grip your heart. Lean into Him, knowing that with His strength, you can find the courage to continue moving forward, even when the journey feels overwhelming.

Prayer:
Lord, when I am surrounded by darkness, I turn to You as my light and salvation. You are my strength and my guide, even when fear tries to overtake me. Help me to trust in Your presence, to feel Your light shining on my path, and to know that I am safe in Your care. Teach me to face each day with courage, knowing that You are with me every step of the way. Amen.

Course of Action for Today:
Find a quiet space where you can sit for a moment and reflect on God as your light. Close your eyes and visualize His light shining into the darkness around you, illuminating the way forward. Whenever you feel fear creeping in today, pause and remind yourself of Psalm 27:1. You may also want to light a candle or look out the window at the sunlight as a symbol of God’s presence in your life.
