The Blessings Given Us

blessingsgivenus

Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others. – St. Augustine

Your blessings are not for you alone. They are to be shared with others. In the same way, the blessings of other people are not for them alone. They are to be shared with all of those God desires to be blessed.

For this reason, there must be no room for envy. God does not favor one at the expense of another. He gives us gifts that can bless one another. Even the earth is but a gift to be shared by all, to be protected and used as stewards of God.

Let us remember this whenever we have an abundance of blessings from God. Let us not hoard them for our own good alone. But like good stewards, let us share them with all of those who are in need. In keeping a surplus of things we do not need, we deprive others who are in need of them.

Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen:
to release the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and that you break every yoke?
Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry,
and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house?
-Isaiah 58:6-7, WEB-BE
