Why Must I Let You Go?

I love you.
Never ever think
That I don’t feel the same way.
I have loved you
With a love
That can go on forever
I have loved you
With a love
That isn’t afraid to die.

But I must let go.
You really know I should.
Though you might wonder
And though you might say
That you’d never understand,
Why I must let go
Of your hand.

I never planned
To hurt you.
But what could I do
If staying means
That I’d just hurt you more?

Never before
Have I loved
The way that I have loved you.
And never before
Have I cried
The way I’d cry for you now.

Tell me that somehow
Our love was not in vain,
Despite all the pain.
Despite the emptiness
We’d suffer
Now that all things
Must come to an end.

You’ve been a friend,
And you’d always be
The dearest one for me.
So embrace me
One last time
Before I go.
You know how much
I love you so.
And because I do,
I have to let you go.

Love Is a Personal Thing

Love is a personal thing.
It wouldn’t be love
If He couldn’t even
Look at you
As though
You’re the only person
He sees.
Do you not feel
The warmth of His gaze?
He calls you by name.
And you know Him, too.
You respond
To the sound of His voice.
It’s a personal thing,
More intimate than
Two lovers mem’rising
Each other’s face.
More passionate
Than two hands
Clasped together,
Never intending
to let each other go.
To Him,
You’re not a mere number,
You’re not just a faceless crowd.
Even behind a mask,
He knows you.
Did He not form you
In your mother’s womb?
Do you not see your name
Inscribed upon His hands?
Even a mother may forget,
But He will remember you.
For you He will leave
The rest behind
Just so you could be found
You are not forgotten,
You are not alone.
You are seen,
You are pursued.
His love is as personal
As each unique shell
Upon the shore
He loves you faithfully
Deeply
And amazingly
For the person
That you truly are.

What God Is Not

If you think you know God,
Perhaps you better think again.
How do you think you know Him?
Have you ever heard His voice
Or seen His face,
Or touched His scars?

Perhaps you don’t believe Him,
And you think He is harsh.
You’re afraid to see Him
Because He would judge you
And condemn you
Just like most people have already done.

Yet before you judge Him, too,
Why not try to know Him?
Why not listen
Where He could be found?

God is merciful,
And God is just.
Perhaps one day we’d find out
He is far more just and far more merciful
Than we thought Him to be.

God is not trying to condemn you,
And God is not pushing you away.
Other people may have told you so,
But their voices are not the voice of God.

On the other hand, you may say you believe.
You believe Him to be kind.
And because He is kind,
He would grant all your wishes
Like a genie that never cares
Whether you’d be happy in the end.

God never promised
That you’d win the lottery,
Or that you’d get that house and lot.
He never promised a perfect life,
For those whom He loves.

God will not always save you from pain,
Neither shall He ensure you’d never feel alone.
The truth is that He can test you
And lead you to places you wouldn’t wish to go.

God is not a weak Father,
Nor is He a careless Friend.
God is not blind,
God is never deaf.

But God will not always answer
Your prayers
The way you think He should.

And if it’s for your own good,
He’d rather that you cry.
He’d rather that you feel,
What’s difficult in life.

Let us not pretend
That God is a comfortable Friend.
For He will dare you to be,
What you thought you’d never be.
And He will dare you to go.
Where you never thought you’d fly.

And when He hides,
Think not that He has abandoned you
For life.
May you see Him and trust Him,
And know
What God is not.

Where I Can’t Reach You

Image by Khusen Rustamov from Pixabay

I can’t reach you there.
I’d like to meet you
Where the sky is blue,
And the sun
Would dazzle in your eyes…
But I’m blind,
And I cannot see
The beauty of your smile.

I can’t reach you there.
How I wish to walk
Where flowers
Are not filled with thorns…
But I dwell
Where roses bleed,
And petals wound
My feet.

Where shall we meet
If not in the darkness
Where I live?
What could I give
If not this love…
Tainted with shadows,
And scarred
By tears?

But if you could…
How I wish you would
Find me
Where clouds
Have gathered to fall
Amidst all pain.
There where grief and hope
Are mingled in the rain.

Don’t Give Me Any More Heartaches

Don’t give me any more heartaches,
They’re not something I could bear.
Now that I’m torn and broken,
I hardly have tears to spare.

Don’t give me any more heartaches,
I’ve had my share of pain.
And if it’s not enough to have had them,
Tell me what more is there to gain?

Don’t give me any more heartaches,
My shattered heart is yet to heal.
And if you touch it before it’s mended,
It may never learn how to feel.

Don’t give me any more heartaches.
Could you just lend a listening ear?
Just wait for me ’til the storm is over,
And tell me love will find me here.
