Beautiful Tears

They weren’t supposed to fall
Those hidden tears
She tried to keep them in
She tried to wipe them all away.
Why must they stay
When seeing them would mean
That you would be crying, too?
And she loves you.
She loves you too much
To hurt you with her eyes,
Eyes that often tried to hide
All the pain she kept inside,
She tried to hide it with her smile
But her eyes, as always
Found a way to speak somehow
She failed to catch a tear or two
And that’s how you knew
All the wondrous things
That only love can do.
