Your First Love

yourfirstlove

“But I have this against you, that you left your first love.” – Revelation 2:4, WEB

What could be more heart wrenching than of knowing you have been forgotten by the one you love? Is there any pain that could ever compare to the wound caused by a heart grown cold, a happy memory that has suddenly grown dim?

And yet, this is often the way we are with God, who should be our first love. This is how we thank Him for all that He has made and for all that He has done out of great love for us.

We go on searching for other loves, exchanging what is true to what is false, leaving what is pure and seeking what is corrupt.

Have we forgotten Him who is our first? Have we set up idols in our hearts and betrayed the One who has always pursued us in tenderness and in compassion, in mercy and in truth?

Forget not your first love, your true love. All else will fade away, but not God’s love.
