Love Is Never In Vain

It is never a waste to love! To love is beautiful. To love is good. To love is to become unselfish and to desire for the best in the other. What’s useless is to let regrets linger, to allow jealousy to enslave you, to try to possess that which must be free, and to hurt others in the end and thereby destroy that which is supposed to be the most beautiful thing of all.

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. – 1 Cor. 13, WEB

It Is Never a Waste To Love

Do me this favor and tell me
It is never in vain to love.
Tell me I shouldn’t go on crying
For all the years I spent wishin’
For all the time I gave and gave
Without receiving anything in return.

Yes, do me this favor and tell me
That the love I gave wasn’t wasted.
That all this time I was doing
Something that has some meaning.
Some worth in the scheme of things.

And though I may not see
Any love returning
Though I may not know how or when
Things will turn out well,
I will hold on in faith believin’
That there is some good
in the scheme of things.
That the time we spend loving
Is a time worth spending
And the heart that has truly loved,
Will yield its harvest in the end.

Things Worth Fighting For!

May God give us the wisdom to tell the difference. For there are things we must let go, and there are things worth fighting for!

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1, WEBBE

Something Worth Fighting For

There are two things
Worth doing in this life:
To find something worth fighting for,
And to fight for it with all your might!

For there is that one thing
That makes you feel alive
One love that blesses all your other loves
One song that burns within your heart.

There is something that helps you see
With a new pair of eyes
It helps you see what’s good and pure
It brings you closer to the light.

And you know it’s worth fighting for
You know you’d defend it with your life
For without it all is meaningless
All is empty and frightful and dark.

Other things may try
But they can never ever replace
That joyful peace, that quiet bliss
That gives without taking something beautiful away.

And so you gather all you have
You give it your all and you do not give up!
When you’ve found something worth fighting for
You fight for it with all your might!

“Are we not perhaps all afraid in some way? If we let Christ enter fully into our lives, if we open ourselves totally to him, are we not afraid that He might take something away from us? Are we not perhaps afraid to give up something significant, something unique, something that makes life so beautiful? Do we not then risk ending up diminished and deprived of our freedom? . . . No! If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great… Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.” – Pope Benedict XVI

Through God’s Loving Eyes

May you never fail to see how beautiful you are in God’s own eyes.

Keep me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings…
-Psalms 17, WEBBE

I often fall in my walk towards holiness when I start to look at myself. Either I’m filled with pride and self-righteousness for doing good or I feel depressed at my sinfulness. And I’ve realized how we’re not really meant to look at or judge ourselves. Even when it comes to a physical walk, who wouldn’t fall if one keeps on looking at oneself instead of looking where one is going?

It’s the same with our spiritual walk. If ever I do need to look at myself, it must be through God’s eyes. Only as I look through Him can I see an image of me that is true. Only as I look through Him who is both just and merciful can I see my sinfulness without falling into despair, or know my progress without succumbing to pride. Looking through His eyes, I see more of Him and less of me, more of His care and less of my worries, more of His strength and less of my weaknesses, more of His love and less of my fears. I can move forward as long as I look towards Him who leads me. My eyes were meant not to remain in the darkness where I am, but to seek and to find His light.

Seek Him Who Loves You

We always seem to look in all the wrong places for love. Why not seek it from Him who will never let you down?

You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 12, WEBBE

Why do we seek the love of someone who can never love us back?
Of someone who can never see us and appreciate us for who we really are?
Are their eyes the only eyes that can see what’s beautiful in us?
Are their hearts the only hearts that can give meaning to our lives?
It is not our fault if someone fails to see what’s good and valuable in us.
It is not our fault if after everything we’ve ever done, and after everything we’ve ever tried, someone fails to receive all the love we have for them inside.
There are other hearts that can return the love we’re truly capable of giving.
And it is not our fault if others fail because their hearts are closed and their eyes are blind.

You Are Not Alone

Sometimes it takes a whole lifetime to learn how to really love ourselves because it also takes a lifetime to know how much God really loves us.

Being Alone

Being alone
Is like running out of breath
Is like falling,
And even if you’re
In a crowd of people,
It’s like drowning
In the midst of them,
Each one a wave
Plunging over you
Until you start to sink
Cause there is really
Nothing to keep you afloat.

And so you close your eyes
And wait
You try not to think anymore
Because thinking
Only worsens your fears.
All you want to do
Is to escape,
To find something
You can hold on to,
A light
That will not hurt
Your eyes
But show you the way.
A voice that
Will not put you down
But lead you
Into that quiet place
Where your feet
Can touch
The ground.

“Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name.
You are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,
and through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burnt,
and flame will not scorch you.
For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel,
your Saviour.”
-Isaiah 43, WEBBE
